Desirable skills:

- Telehandler license.

- Extensive chainsaw experience.

Job Description

Reporting directly to: Yard Manager, Log Builder / Team Leader

As a trainee log builder, you will be involved in the construction of handcrafted log homes, timber frame homes and other building works as required. You are expected to focus on the development of your skills to help forward your own career and the companies goals whilst undertaking all tasks required. Tasks include but are not limited to:

Pressure washing logs

Scribing, sanding, treating

Efficiently and accurately cutting and fitting logs using chainsaws and hand tools

Accurately perform marking out tasks

Ensure that you and others around you are working safely at all times

Organise, maintain and take care of company tools and assets

Conduct yourself in a manner expected from a professional tradesperson

Keep the yard and/or site clean and tidy

Drive lifting machinery (if licensed to do so) with care, observing safe working practices and formal training

Use tools safely and responsibly 

Help in any other facets of the business from time to time as required

The salary for a trainee log builder is £20,400p/a

First and second fix carpenters needed for ongoing work, subcontractors considered.

We are currently expanding the scope of our workload, which will require additional carpentry teams to work on various sites around the UK.

Responsibilities / Key duties: 

- Framing and cladding log post and beam structures.

- Making and assembling doors, window frames, staircases and fitted furniture

- Installing skirting boards, door linings, doors. 

- Cutting and shaping timber for floorboards, skirting boards and window frames

- Making and fitting interior stud work for cabins. 

- Installing window units and doors. 

- Installing timbers for roof structures. 

You should have a minimum of NVQ level 2 or equivalent in Carpentry and have demonstrable experience in all aspects of carpentry, joinery, and ironmongery. You will be able to demonstrate good customer relationship skills. A current CSCS card is necessary.

Due to a requirement to travel within this role, candidates must hold a full and current driving licence and be willing to work away from home. Good rates of pay dependant on experience.

The role

Working closely with directors and surveyor, your role will be to produce architectural and detailed drawing for potential and active log home and timber frame projects around the UK. This is an exciting and unique role for a talented architect graduate that will grow with the company.

The drafting role includes:

- Interpret design briefs

- Organise and communicate designs with clients/stakeholders

- Creating concepts designs for one-off projects

- Communicating with directors, surveyor and project manager to create and design workable construction solutions

- Accurately report time used by project

- Other tasks as required by the needs of the business

The role

Working as a part of the management team to organise various log home and timber frame projects around the UK from conception to sign off.

The PM role includes:

  • Interpreting designs
  • Communicate designs with subcontractors/stakeholders
  • Create and manage strict project scheduling
  • Finding, securing and managing subcontractors
  • Problem-solving
  • Procuring all materials keeping project costs to a minimum
  • Client relationship management
  • Accurately report/record project costs and labour use
  • Manage health and safety requirements
  • Other tasks as required by the needs of the business

Beyond the project management side of the role we would like to hire an individual who is keen to help us with other aspects of the company. Including, but not limited to:
